How it works

From something they said to something you'll remember.

Hints has no forms. You write one sentence the way you'd text a friend, and Hints does the filing.

Step 1

Catch it in a sentence

Type what you heard into the capture bar, dictate it, or say "Add a hint" to Siri. Shortcuts, Spotlight and the Action button work too.

The note is saved the moment you send it, before anything else happens, so an idea is never lost, even if you close the app straight away.

Step 2

Apple Intelligence reads it

Apple Intelligence picks out who the note is about, what they'd love, any occasion and its date, and facts worth keeping, like a shoe size or something they can't stand. It runs on your iPhone or on Apple's Private Cloud Compute.

It works with the words in your note rather than inventing its own, and if a note mentions two people, each gets their own.

Step 3

You check it

A review sheet shows what Hints understood. The person is usually picked for you from your contacts and the people already in Hints, and Hints remembers the names you use, so once a note about "Mum" is filed under your mother, the next one finds her too.

Change anything that looks wrong, then tap Save. Nothing is filed until you say so.

Step 4

It's there when you need it

Everything lands on that person's page: gift hints, sizes, likes and dislikes, and their occasions. If they're in your contacts, their birthday comes with them.

When the day comes, open their page and the ideas are waiting, in the words they used.

No forms. No guessing. Just what they said.
